I’d tell you what a wonderful meeting we had on Thursday, Nov 14, but I don’t have time because I’m heading out of town for a reunion weekend in Boston. I could tell you what a great job our TM Diana Bergman did with the theme of “The Frost is on the Pumpkin”, or what great speeches Kevin Swanson, Felicia Douglis, and Hal Slater gave…or how good the feedback was from evaluators Jane Flaherty, Suzi O’Brien, and Beth Bateman, or that we had six guests, an Area Governor visit, earned a Golden Gavel for our excellent meeting, and that we had three first timers as functionaries…but I don’t have time.
Dates: Dec. 5 30th Anniversary meeting; Dec. 15, in the evening, Holiday Party and Anniversary Celebration.
Welcome new member James (I don’t know his last name because I don’t have your paperwork). Nice to have you a Voyager. If anyone has James’s email please forward this to him until I get him on the club roster.
See you for “Marketing the Voyagers Experience” next week led by Professor Alan Hoffmanner and attended by his MBA class who will prepare a marketing plan for Voyagers as a class project.
Congratulations to Beth Bateman, our Humorous Speech Contest Winner, and Jane Flaherty, Our Evaluation Contest Winner. They will represent us at the Area 12 Humorous and Evaluation Contest on Sept 21. And congratulations to all participants: Humorous Contest Mike Ruthenberg; Evaluation Contest: Donna Gillen, Terry Hewins, and Kimberly Lundberg.
We will begin a Speechcraft training for new and prospective members starting Oct. 3. Our speechcraft chair is Trisha Landoni. We’ll have fliers and announcements this next week at the meeting and an electronic flyer in next week’s email.
Semi-annual dues are now due (is that redundant?). They are $63 for club and Toastmasters International, $65 if paid by credit or debit card. You can pay at our meetings or send your dues to 1160 Hunter Street, San Diego, CA 92103. Let’s get our dues in early and make it easy on our treasurer, Kimberly.
Beth Bateman was the Toastmaster and she took us on a fun voyage through 27 of her top activities to do in San Diego in the Summer. We had a rollicking Table Topics session in which our guest Emilia took home the ribbon for her contribution about lying on the hot sand on the beach.
We had three wonderful speakers – Leslie Leonardo doing her ice breaker speech (CONGRATULATIONS!!!!), Angelique Hood telling us about her trip to New York, and Justin Salbato reading and acting out a funny folk tale. Leslie took home the ribbon for best speaker!
Terry Hewins was General Evaluator and as usual, he had to do it with a twist. We had five evaluators reviewing three speeches. Mark Shapiro’s evaluation of Ms. Hood’s speech got the nod for best evaluation of the day.
Join us next week as Toastmaster Justin Salbato leads us on a Blast from the Past.
